WEEKS IN
INTERVENTIONAL PULMONOLOGY
(Hands-on Courses – Ancona, Italy)
Calendar of Courses Ancona
Over the past decades, interventional pulmonology procedures
(bronchoscopy, thoracoscopy, chest drainage insertion, percutaneous
needle aspiration), have become widely used techniques in the
majority of the respiratory pathological conditions, thanks to the
technological progress that has increased their safety and their
diagnostic and therapeutic possibilities
Lung cancer, peripheral pulmonary lesions, mediastinal lesions,
common as well as uncommon inflammatory lung diseases,
tracheobronchial stenosis, are conditions that can not be managed
without the use of interventional techniques.
This is the main reason why pulmonologists are interested in
increasing their knowledge and their skills in bronchoscopic and
thoracoscopic procedures and why in the recent times many Hands-on
Courses regarding these techniques have been organised worldwide.
Traditional Hands-on Courses, even though very useful, are generally
limited to two or three days and organised mainly with lectures and
practical sessions on artificial or animal models, sometimes
including transmission of live cases on a monitor.
In recent years we have received an increasing request from many
colleagues to attend our Service for a training period, that allows
them to see how an endoscopic activity is organised and how the
different procedures are conducted, taking part directly in the
examinations in the diagnostic room.
These continuous requests, led us to think about a new kind of
Hands-on Course, designed to be a series of “residential stages”
which would run over a whole week (from Monday to Friday), where
participants could attend the activities of the Endoscopic Room,
discussing every aspect of the clinical cases and of the procedures
performed.
In other words, participants will live the daily activity of an
Endoscopy Service learning to manage every kind of problem that
could occur, from difficult patients to management of complications,
from normal routine activity to unexpected emergency.
The afternoon sessions will concern discussion of the cases
performed with the participation of a cytopathologist who will show
the slides of the material obtained from the endoscopic procedures,
lectures concerning the different aspects of the techniques,
research on Med-line made directly by the participants about some
particular case or pathology or technique witnessed during the
morning session, training to perform endoscopic manoeuvres on
models.
Each week, limited to a close number of participants, will be
dedicated to a particular topic in the field of Interventional
Pulmonology and some weeks will have one or more special guests
(recognized international experts in the specific topic of the week)
that will attend the whole course.
The venues of the Courses will be the Endoscopy Service of the
Pulmonary Unit of the Hospital of Ancona (Italy).
With this initiative we hope to satisfy the requirement of young
pulmonologists who are about to enter the field of interventional
pulmonology and to receive the fundamental theoretical and practical
knowledge to start performing these techniques. We also wish to
provide the more expert colleagues with elements to deepen and
improve their skills.
We hope to see you in Ancona
